"Education is the great equalizer!"
El hajj Malik el Shabazz or Malcolm X eloquently stated that "Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today." In basic terms, the purpose of a full comprehensive education is to learn how to problem solve and develop one's own ability to identify and solve their own problem, issues and obstacles as well as the issues, problems and obstacles in their own community to make their family's lives better. Whether it's through public, private, charter or homeschools, education is considered a human right and a tool used to uplift one's plight, lot in life and improved their economic conditions & social status. The best part of learning is when one takes control of the learning process and learns for learning sake. There are some truths about life that you will have to learn and show mastery to become a competent and well-developed person: learning how to read directions and interpret maps, basic reading, writing and vocabulary skills, figuring out how to compute basic addition, subtraction, divide and multiply, in the moment, to solve issues and problems and learn how to enunciate words into sentences to properly communicate to express one's self effectively. The formative years of education (K-12) are the most important for one's growth and development and this is exactly what H.I.M. focuses on concerning the 4 domains of development as a wholistic way of learning: The physical, cognitive, social and emotional!
African American male teachers rock!
Not only are African American teachers roughly about 7% of all teachers in the country but African American, male teachers make up only about 1.9% of the total workforce of teachers in our nation's public schools. Most of us don't have a recollection of having black male teachers growing up with the exception that 1 gym teacher but, to a large extent, that was maybe the only example of seeing a African American male teacher in school growing up.
A 2016 study by the American Educational Research Association concluded that test scored and other factors being equal, black students were three times more likely to be assigned to Gifted and Talented programs when taught by a black male teacher than a non-black teacher. H.I.M., Inc has a fast track program to help African American male college students or post graduate professionals looking to change careers who are interested in entering into the educational industry.
