open letter to all young potential H.I.M. males

Dear young men,

You owe your communities, your families, your relationships and most importantly, yourselves to be spiritual, mentally, emotionally, financially and physically fit and healthy. Having a healthy state of mind is the first step to producing the desired positive outcomes in one's life. Life is precious, life is beautiful and life is to be enjoyed, but you only get one life! We feel that most young men today are not enjoying their lives because of their family, finances & living circumstances, their poor choices and their lack of self control among other things they experience when they are young but this often stems from the lack of consistent direction, training, wisdom, instruction and guidance from honorable men in their lives or households. H.I.M. Inc often refers to the Book of Proverbs as examples of ancient wisdom, instruction and guidance that has stood the test of time to gain understanding. Proverbs 22:6 quotes that "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart [or abandon] from it." Young men of today and yesteryear unfortunately grew up without the rearing of strong, consistent, honorable and impressionable family male models; however, there are still examples of impressionable men who can mentor, coach, instruct and advise those who can be open to it. We all had teachers, preachers, coaches, principals, guidance counselors in our lives who were examples that were there for us to learn from but for different reasons we either didn't want to learn and receive what they were trying to impart to us. As a teacher and a mentor for most of my career, there were countless times that I've tried to impart wisdom to my male students or mentees but they weren't really ready but as the old adage goes "when the student is ready the teacher will come." However, for many of our young men they waste too much time, go through too much unnecessary drama, heartache and pain and repeat too many unlearned lessons before getting it and some unfortunately don't get it until it's too late. Unfortunately some need jail, prison and mental institutions to finally see and gain understanding that they have not been living up and actualizing their unrealized potential. After the years of leading lives with broken dreams, broken hearts and broken promises these men turn into broken men and as the Frederick Douglass observed and noted way back in the 1800's was "it is easier to to build strong children than repair broken men." We need our young men to help themselves, gain wisdom and understanding and wake up before they get to the point of no return and become broken men!
